"Asteroid impacts in the earth "

Last week a crater submerged in the Hiawatha Glacier was found in Greenland by Joseph MacGregor, a project scientist with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. This crater measures 19 miles wide and is said to be one of the largest craters found on planet earth so far.

"Map, crater zone"

Greenland is a sparsely populated area and little studied, that is why most scientists in this area come to study everything related to climate change; However, Josheph along with his team decided to investigate glaciers in Greenland and they realized that there was a large, circular, closed depression intact under the massive Hiawatha Glacier.

After they did their research they conclude “between 3 million and 12,000 years ago, an asteroid roughly 3,100 feet wide and rich in iron pummelled Greenland and left behind an enormous dent in the ground. Later on, the ice sheet would recover and mask the impact crater in a 3,200-foot layer of snow”

However, this has not yet been confirmed because if the asteroid had been impacted it would have caused a significant change in the atmosphere and climate but there is no way to check this since it is not even know when it happened.

Scientists are collecting more tests and samples of rocks from the area to know what happened there and when it happened.

Once again we get a little closer to understand the history of our planet
