Édgar Veytia, Nayarit's former prosecutor, declared himself guilty of international drug trafficking today at Brooklyn's Federal Court in New York. He had been previously charged with distribution and production of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana in 2013, but decided to declare almost 6 years later. Ironically, Veytia was serving as the prosecutor of Nayarit during the time of the charges.

Veytia was arrested at San Diego's border on February 27th, 2017. His case was filed on March 2nd of the same year. The arraignment declared he had manufactured and distributed drugs from Mexico to the United States of America from 2013, the year he started serving as Nayarit's prosecutor, until February of 2017.
It is said he bribed his dealers to trade the drugs and even prompted them to do it. It is also said that during his serving time, he allowed different drug related activities to take place without consequences. The whole research was made by the FBI, DEA, and HSI. This organizations were assigned the case because they are part of Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF). The OCDETF is a multi agency, federal group that takes down serious drug trafficking organizations.

Veytia may be sentenced with life imprisonment because of these allegations, which seems fair since his job was to provide not only justice to Nayarit, but safety. The irony can't be marked enough. Corruption will forever exist, there's no denying that, but the most upsetting part is that politic positions are now a job where you can do the exact opposite to what you are supposed to and get away with it.
