"Yemen is experiencing a suffering that the world does not experience, hunger affects 14 million people, which is almost half of the population", were the words of the activist Tawakkul Karman. On Thursday, November 8, the winner of Novel prize 2011, began by shedding light on the internal and external problems of the crisis in Yemen. This happened in the House ignited on the freedom of expression and human rights of her country.

Thanks to people like Karman, this problem has not been forgotten as some others. Her role as an activist began since the separation of the north with the south of Yemen. Her reaction was the social mobilization and journalistic coverage of the multiple human rights violations, especially those that had as victims women and girls. At this conference, she said that decisions will be taken on the recommendations that the meeting produces, also that she believes that these recommendations will contribute to peace in Yemen. The Nobel emphasized again that there is a humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen at this time and that the country has faced devastation never before seen.

The United Nations Organization has declared that this is one of the biggest humanitarian crises that have ever been known. The high levels of corruption, limited freedom and lack of judicial independence, are some of the factors that led to Yemen's poor stability since 4 years ago. It has been said that 21.2 million people out of a total of 26 million, need immediately humanitarian assistance, 14.4 million have the most serious hunger problems… mentioning some points. Moreover, there are approximately 4,300 daily cases of cholera. This epidemic has spread to more than 80% of the country.

Karman said the country suffers from problems in the field of sewerage, education, health, water and electricity. She declared, "there must be an atmosphere of peace, airports, ports, islands, hospitals and beaches should be reopened, trade in Yemen has to start over”. She insisted Saudi Arabia to get its hands out of there and stop helping terrorist groups. There are people who can not live their lives because of the circumstances in which they live and without guilt. Uniting voices and people like Karman, things could change with only little help from each one towards those people who sadly suffer day to day.
